Physical activity is directly linked to health, and the leisure unit aims to increase participation in its programs in order to build the health of local residents and the community in general. We provide structured and unstructured swimming, indoor sporting activities, children’s learn to swim classes, aquarobics classes and other keep fit activities that are designed to suit the changing population.
Southern Swim School will be opening soon, in late October 2019. We look forward to bringing a new and innovative approach to swimming teaching and coaching to our community.
After acquiring an existing pool at Kirrawee, our new owners, Josh & Brigette Crowther and Neisha & John Pitt, have undertaken a major overhaul of the Swim Centre. The swim program has been re-established from the ground up, with new teaching staff and a new tested-and-proven curriculum, led by our Head of Swimming, Leanne Oakley, who has two decades of experience in establishing and managing large and reputable swim schools.
Southern Swim School is a modern, progressive and challenging skill based Swimming program that caters for all swimmers, of all ages and abilities. The opportunity to learn how to swim well, is a gift that parents give to their children for life. Here in the Sutherland Shire, swimming is a part of the social life of our children. We place high importance on building lifelong skills and a love of water, so our swimmers are competent and confident in all aquatic environments.
Both our Head of Swimming and Learn to Swim Coordinator, Brooke Etcell are excited to bring their skills, knowledge and experience into the Sutherland Shire. Leanne and Brooke have the belief that young children are capable of doing amazing things in the water from a very young age, when exposed to consistent and quality swimming lessons.
Our Learn to Swim and Squad classes will operate between Monday and Saturday, throughout the mornings and afternoons, all year round.
